Arise News247 just gathered that the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) is set to probe the activities of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) from 2007 to 2014. This covers the tenures of two former CBN governors, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo and Emir Sanusi Lamido Sanusi who were loyal supporters of APC, but recently boldly and publicly criticized the Buhari led APC government, exposing Buhari’s lack of readiness for governance as well as APC inability to bring the change they promised.
This was reliably gathered from a top Presidency source. However, the source added that the president is yet to finally approve the probe. “But that the government is of the view that the way and manner projects and policies were handled by the two former CBN governors had issues that needed clarification. Hence, the probe would centre on the printing of naira notes authorized by Soludo and the management of surplus finances of CBN under Alhaji Sanusi as well as the distribution of FOREX earnings to Bureau de Change operators and the report of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRCN).” the reliable source asserted.
As a reminder Emir Sanusi while in Kaduna had openly criticized the FOREX policy of the Buhari led APC government, which he alleged is stupendously making a few privileged individuals in the society accumulate huge money without any effort order than mere phone contact. While S0ludo also recently criticized some of the economic policies of this APC regime, alleging that it has created unbearable hardship for Nigerians.
In reaction to the criticism of the two ex-CBN governors who had been good friends of APC before openly expressing their displeasure, the presidency said that the duo should have written secret letters to offer their advice rather than engaging in public criticism.
Lere Olayinka, the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Ayodele Fayose on Public Communication and News Media predicted that the next EFCC Probe will be centered on Emir Sanusi for daring to criticize the government he once supported.
