Arise News247 reports that Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose officially declared his intention to run for the office of the president of Nigeria under the umbrella of PDP, despite the zoning arrangement of the party (which he was part of) that ceded the most exalted office in the political arena in Nigeria to the north.
Arise News247 gathered that the development did not go well with many party leaders including the incumbent National Chairman of the National Caretakers Committee (NCC), Senator Ahmed Makarfi, and the National Publicity Secretary, Prince Dayo Adeyeye that has been having a running battle with governor Fayose over his gubernatorial ambition; that Fayose decided to adopt his deputy in his stead.
However, other presidential aspirants who are of northern extraction (where it is zoned): getting ready to battle for the party’s lone presidential ticket are unperturbed, rather they see the declaration as a challenge to brace up.
According to Rev. Emmanuel Olorunmgba, a northerner who has also declared his intention to become the youngest democratically elected president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria by 2019, “governor Fayose has taken the bull by the horn challenging those of us from the north to wake up to the reality that time waits for no man.”
The Kaduna based cleric who spoke with Arise News247 correspondent after a crucial meeting in his campaign office on Thursday, 28th September, 2017 also added that “a keenly contested primary will prepare the candidate that will emerge the flag-bearer of our great party towards the task ahead. And see the candidate before you,” he boldly declared.
