ABIRU OF APC EMERGES WINNER OF LAGOS EAST SENATORIAL BYE-ELECTION

INEC declares Tokunbo Abiru of the All Progressive Congress (APC) winner of the Lagos East senatorial bye-election conducted yesterday, December 5, 2020.

Abiru polled 89,204 votes to defeat his closest rival, Babatunde Gbadamosi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who trailed behind with 11,257 votes.

The INEC Returning Officer for the bye-election, Prof. Ademola Oremosu of the University of Lagos, announcing the results at the Somolu collation centre this morning, Sunday December 6, 2020 discloses the votes scored by the other ten candidates as follows:

Adebowale Ogunlaru of Action Democratic Party (ADP) = 535 votes

John Kome of African Democratic Congress (ADC) = 376 votes.

Mercy Adeoye of African Action Congress (AAC) = 248 votes

Taiwo Temitope of Young Progressive Party (YPP) = 208 votes.

Olusola Babatope of Allied Peoples Movement (APM) = 202 votes

Muyiwa Adebanjo of Action Alliance (AA) = 96 votes

Akin Olukunle of National Rescue Movement (NRM) = 65 votes

Florence Trautman of Labour Party (LP) = 58 votes

Adijat Lawal of New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) = 52 votes and

Saheed Aluko of Social Democratic Party (SDP) = 35 votes

Prof Oremosu also declares that, of the total registered voters 1,261,673 in the district, the total accredited voters was 104, 894, the total vote cast stands at 104, 405, the total valid votes being 102, 336, while 2,069 remains the number of the rejected votes.
