Comrade Shehu Sani, The Senator representing Kaduna Central storms Gbagyi Villa on Thursday 11th August 2016 for a parliamentarian tour of the community over the ordeal of the people on the planned demolition of the entire community by Gov. Nasiru El-Rufai of the APC.
The Chairman of Gbagyi Villa Property Owners Association, Mr. Chris, along with other residents received him and conveyed him round the community. Precisely he was shown the graves of some forefathers of Gbagyi people dating back to about 95 years. Also he was taking to see the signpost mounted by the contractor who erected the fence demarcating Gbagyi Villa from the Polytechnic. The Polytechnic management had denied erecting the fence.
The Comrade Senator who addressed the people both as a Senator and as a human right activist asserted that from what he witnessed Gbagyi people have right to the land and that government should be about the welfare of the people not demolition.
In his own words
“From my own little knowledge, the present generation of Gbagyi Villa people is almost the 3rd or even 4th generation of people who have resided on this land.
“And it is right to address you all as the indigenous people of Gbagyi Villa.
“As the indigenous people, you have the moral and political rights t claim the rightful ownership of the land.
“And I will emphasize on it in a small phrase: ‘People are much more important than land.’
“The first objective of any government is to exist and commit itself in the welfare and wellbeing, peace, order and comfort of its own people and citizens.
“We are in the time of democracy and the people have the fundamental right to say NO.”
He encouraged Gbagyi Villa people to remain calm as he will give his best to ensure justice prevails. Concluding that APC campaign promises do not include demolition and that this Gbagyi Villa case is going to be the true litmus paper to confirm if Nigeria is truly in an era of democracy, as the case is of public interest; “Nigerians are watching and the whole world is watching as well.” He affirms.
