According to the news reaching the Newsroom of Arise News247, the controversial judge in Nigeria, Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court, Abuja; has been redeployed alongside ten other judges in a major shake-up ordered by the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court.

This was contained in a circular addressed to all judges of the court, signed by the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice Ibrahim Auta.

Justice Okon Abang is redeployed from Abuja to Asaba division based on what was simply described as “the recent developments in the court.”

Justice Auta stated in the circular that “some divisions are currently short of judge following the recent developments in the court.” He then stressed further that, “it has become necessary to take urgent steps to fill in existing vacancies.”

Adding also that, the “affected judges are expected to resume in their new divisions by January 30, 2017. The judges shall continue with the hearing of criminal cases currently before them, as well as at least two witnesses have testified.”

The other judges affected are Justice Liman (moved from Port Harcourt to Enugu division); Justice S. Saidu (from Lagos to Port Harcourt); Justice A. O Faji (Asaba to Lagos); Justice R. M Aikawa (moved from Sokoto to Lagos); Justice B. O Quadri (from Port Harcourt to Abuja); Justice Mallong Hoommuk (Port Harcourt to Lafia); Justice K. K Dagat (from Lagos to Kano); Justice Saleh Idrissa (Kano to Sokoto); Justice H. I. O Oshomah (from Lafia to Port Harcourt) and Justice J. K Omotosho (from Kano to Port Harcourt).

It is of note that Justice Abang is well known for controversial judgments, that the appellate court always reverses when approached. Some of his controversial judgments include the controversial sack of Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, but was later reversed by the appellate court.

His controversial judgment also led to the confusion in the Ondo 2016 Gubernatorial election. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) substitute Barr Eyitayo Jegede with Jimoh Ibrahim as the PDP candidate based on his ruling, which was set aside and referred to as grossly defective by the Appeal Court special panel.

The redeployment of Justice Abang will be a major succor to the People Democratic Party (PDP) that has always been the victim of his controversial judgments.
