The news reaching Arise News247 has it that the controversy trailing The Gambia is getting more clustered as Adama Barrow was sworn in as Gambia’s new president a while ago (Thursday 19th January, 2017) in Dakar Senegal at the country’s Embassy.
The incumbent, Yahya Jammeh, was earlier granted 3 months extension by the country’s parliament. Thus he has refused to step-down after loosing last month’s presidential election.
This scenario means that Gambia has two presidents now: One Yahya Jammeh, operating from the capital city right from the country at the Seat of power. The other, Adama Barrow still on exile, operating with the backing of ECOWAS from the country’s embassy at Dakar, Senegal.
In his speech immediately after taking the oat of office, Adama Barrow said “This is a day no Gambian will ever forget in a lifetime.”
Barrow’s swearing in ceremony was broadcast live on Senegalese television and some other major media stations.
It is worthy of note that so many Gambians have fled in apprehension of a possible clash.
