Arise News247 gathered that the Nigerian boxing legend, Bashiru Ali (a.k.a Bash Ali), who was celebrated during Jonathan’s regime has been docked by the court based on the report made by the Sports Ministry against him for staging one-man protest in the office of the Minister of Sports.
He was arraigned on April 3, 2017 in Gudu Upper Area Court, Abuja, on a four-count charge bordering on criminal trespass, intentional insult, inciting public disturbance and refusal to make statement. The judge, Alhaji Umar Kagarko granted him bail today, Wednesday April 5, 2017 in the sum of N100,000 and one surety in like sum that must be resident within the court’s jurisdiction.
The case was adjourned till June 15 for hearing.
It is of a note that Bash Ali was arrested on April 3, 2017 based on the report of the Sports Minister and he was charged to court. The prosecutor, Oyeyemi Adeniyi, explained that Bash “criminally trespassed into the office of the Honourable Minister of Sport and Youth Development at the Federal Secretariat, Abuja, on April 3, 2017.”
Adding also that, “he forcefully entered the office without the minister’s invitation and intentionally insulted the minister. The defendant’s action attracted crowd and disrupted the activities of the ministry before the police within the premises intervened,” oyeyemi maintained.
“And the defendant refused to make statement to the police when he was arrested,” he said.
Concluding that the offences contravened Sections 348, 399, 114 and 143 of the Penal Code.
However, the defendant denied committing the offences.
Thus, counsel to the defendant, Mr Tajudeen Adegbite, applied for his bail on self-recognition and the judge adjourned ruling on the defendant’s bail application to today April 5 2017.
